Listening Bodies

Listening Bodies is a podcast series in which selected African artists from the field of dance and performance give insight into their working methods, personal careers, references and the socio-political roots and transformative possibilities of their art. Each artist featured runs institutions or companies on the continent and/or tours internationally. The overall collection of podcasts provides the opportunity to consider the approaches, influences and orientations of these artists while giving insight into current practices in the performing arts in Africa.

Created as a resource for performing artists and professionals practising in Africa as well as for arts professionals and audiences outside of Africa, the series is a proposition of knowledge based on different artistic positions; an examination of performance which expands the vocabulary for discussing African performing arts in non-academic terms. It seeks to enable a more sensitive and informed reception of productions from the African continent while also disseminating practice reference to African practitioners.

Listening Bodies / Corps à l'écoute ist eine Podcast-Reihe, in der ausgewählte afrikanische Künstler*innen aus dem Bereich Tanz und Performance Einblicke in ihre Arbeitsmethoden, ihren persönlichen Werdegang, ihre Referenzen und die sozialpolitischen Kontexte sowie das Potenzial ihrer Kunst geben. Alle präsentierten Künstler*innen leiten Institutionen oder Kompanien auf dem Kontinent und/oder touren international. Die Podcast-Reihe bietet die Möglichkeit, sich mit den Ansätzen, Einflüssen und Ausrichtungen der Künstler*innen auseinanderzusetzen und gleichzeitig einen Einblick in aktuelle Trends der darstellenden Künste auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent zu geben.

Die Reihe ist gedacht als Ressource für darstellende Künstler*innen und Fachleute, die in Afrika tätig sind, sowie für Kunstschaffende und das Publikum außerhalb Afrikas. Sie ist ein Wissensangebot, das auf verschiedenen künstlerischen Positionen basiert; ein Einblick in Tanz und Performance-Kunst gibt und das Vokabular für die Diskussion der afrikanischen darstellenden Künste in nicht-akademischen Begriffen erweitert. Die Podcast-Reihe soll eine sensible und sachkundige Rezeption von Produktionen des afrikanischen Kontinents ermöglichen und gleichzeitig einen Praxisbezug zu afrikanischen Künstler*innen herstellen.

Corps à l'écoute est une série de podcasts dans laquelle des artistes africain.e.s issu.e.s du domaine de la danse et de la performance donnent un aperçu de leurs méthodes de travail, de leur parcours personnel, de leurs inspirations, ainsi que du contexte sociopolitique dans lequel iels créent et du potentiel de leur art à être vecteur de transformations. Tous.tes les artistes présenté.e.s dirigent des institutions ou des compagnies sur le continent et/ou effectuent des tournées internationales. La série de podcasts se penche sur les approches, les influences et les orientations des artistes, tout en donnant un aperçu des tendances actuelles des arts du spectacle sur le continent africain.

La série est conçue comme une ressource pour les artistes et les professionnel.le.s du spectacle vivant en Afrique, ainsi que pour les créateur.rice.s et le public en dehors de l'Afrique. Il s'agit de proposer une banque de connaissances fondée sur différentes positions artistiques et de donner un aperçu des arts de la danse et de la performance africains au-delà des cercles académiques. La série de podcasts vise à sensibiliser le public et à permettre une réception plus informée des productions du continent africain, tout en nouant un lien avec les artistes africain.e.s sur la base de la pratique artistique.
