ANIMA SGN is kicking off 2025 by welcoming the Year of the Snake on Lunar New Year. We are reminded of an old Vietnamese proverb that says, 'The snake comes quietly but transforms everything in its path.' This creature, often misunderstood, symbolizes wisdom, transformation, and renewal. Lunar New Year is not just about marking time—it’s about embracing change, shedding old skin, and stepping into new beginnings. In this special episode, we’ll weave these themes of transformation and renewal into a tapestry of sound and storytelling. Through the voices of Asian artists and the music that connects our diasporic identities, we invite you to reflect on the journeys that brought us here and the paths yet to unfold. Like the snake, this episode invites us to pause, listen, and embrace the quiet yet powerful changes that lie ahead. Welcome to the Year of the Snake!
For the next two hours, we have the immense pleasure of welcoming two extraordinary artists who blur the lines between sound, visuals, and storytelling: Kiki Kudo and Brian Close, both currently based in Connecticut.
Kiki Kudo is a true renaissance woman—a novelist, DJ, producer, and exceptional chef. Born in Japan and based in New York City since 2011, Kiki’s creative practice spans experimental techno, culinary arts, and literary expression.
Brian Close, meanwhile, is a visual artist, graphic designer, animator, sound designer, filmmaker, and musician. As a member of the experimental project Georgia, Brian pushes boundaries in both sound and visuals, creating works that transcend traditional genres. Together, Kiki and Brian create music and visuals that defy convention, releasing their projects on underground labels worldwide and showcasing a shared commitment to uncovering the raw, the marginal, and the unexpected.
