As we get closer to our upcoming festival, we’re taking a little detour with you, beyond the mountains and valleys of Eritrea.
Last November, Vivi travelled to Eritrea and had the chance to visit the region of Barentu, home to the Kunama people, one of Eritrea’s Indigenous communities.
On their last day there, Vivi walked into a small internet café and asked if they had any music from the region. They were kindly handed a USB stick filled with an entire selection of local music.
A small, unexpected treasure and one that has travelled all the way back to Berlin.
For this month’s edition of AL.Berlin’s spot on Refuge Worldwide, Vivi will share this musical collection with us: a selection of sounds from Barentu and the Kunama region that was generously shared with them during their journey.
