The Spiral Times: Prison, Poetry & Fighting for Freedom | Samir Al-Amir & BB

With BB

An urgent programme bringing together voices of resistance in its many forms at this important moment, led by often overlooked perspectives of those who fight for freedom and sacrifice everything. This is an extended conversation with Samir Al-Amir, a liberated prisoner from Aida Refugee Camp who spent 19 years in occupation jails. We discuss hunger strikes, education via smuggled phones, the collective struggles of incarceration, keeping poetry alive inside prisons, the many forms of resistance and adjusting to life outside a cell while yet to be free.

Generations under oppression in Palestine and worldwide repeat the same struggles, but the prisoners keep the poems alive, the children own the future, and the spiral continues upwards, to where else but freedom.

Now is the moment to tune in!

Special thank you to Athal Al-Azza, Mohammed Al-Azza, and Nidal Al-Azza for their contributions to this piece.

Now more than ever: End the Siege on Gaza, End the Occupation and Free Palestine.
