The South South Conversation | AAMIROO & Acid Amazigh

With AAMIROO and Acid Amazigh

The South South Conversation is a radio show about musical traditions on their own terms. In this episode, we look at Zar and Gnawa — two traditions rooted in Africa where music, healing, and collective practice are not separate things.the ceremony is the medicine and the music is the ceremony. Zar travels from Ethiopia and Sudan through Egypt and into the Persian Gulf. Gnawa carries the memory of enslaved West Africans into Moroccan Sufi practice. In both, healing takes place among people, through sound.
