Signals from Gaswerk Music Days | Gaswerk Team, Romain Azzaro, Elle Kai & Jokwiz

Leading up to Gaswerk Music Days festival, this ongoing series on Refuge Worldwide introduces selected artists from the festival lineup alongside voices connected to the residencies hosted at Gaswerk. Returning in summer 2026 for its fourth edition, the festival unfolds across two weekends with six days of concerts and special formats dedicated to Radical Live Music, bringing together experimental electronics, African sounds, dub, avant-pop, kraut, improvisation, noise, jazz, and dance music.

For this episode, festival co-directors Letizia Trussi (aka Elle Kai) and long-time guest curator Romain Azzaro welcome JOKWIZ, a Ugandan MC, filmmaker and cultural curator whose work connects East African music, storytelling and grassroots culture. Together, they introduce the Gaswerk Music Days programme for July 25 and 26 - two days dedicated to African sound in both its traditional and most forward-looking forms, as well as to collaborative projects and original material emerging from this year's residency programme, bringing together more than twelve artists from Uganda, Tanzania and beyond.
