With modú

In the Yoruba cosmology, sound is the vibrational force of creation, a passageway between Ayé (the physical world) and Ọ̀run (the spiritual realm). This session dives into the traditional Yoruba ceremonial songs from Nigeria and their living continuations in Cuba, Puerto Rico and Haiti, where Lucumí and Santería practices kept the same presences alive under different names through syncretism. Slow textures from Space Afrika and African American Sound Recordings are threaded throughout as connective tissues, guiding listeners from one realm of ceremony to another.
