Refuge Worldwide's trip to Sicily.
By Staff
Earlier this month we took a trip to Ortigia in Sicily, broadcasting panel discussions and DJ sets as part of GISIRA Festival 2024.
The weekend featured a heavy presence from local NGOs and humanitarian groups, including SOS Humanity's Head of Operations Till Rummenhol, Kerstine Launay from Sea-Watch and Michela Messina from CIAO in discussion with Nicky Böhm about migrant relief efforts in the Mediterranean.
Refuge Worldwide's Özay Öztürk, along with Bluemarina, Mirko Fanciullo, and Lungomare Paradiso, joined us on La Barca in the Ortigia harbour for a celebration of Mediterranean music and culture.
In addition to our radio broadcast, the festival included events at various locations around Ortigia, with a programme attempting to reflect on the region's complexity. Check out photos by Giacomo De Caro and listen back to some performances from GISIRA 2024 below.
