Ricardo Magrão has been involved with music since his teenage years in the 1980s, playing guitar and bass in several bands across São Paulo. His transition from live instruments to turntables began in the mid-1990s, when he started using his personal vinyl collection to soundtrack gatherings with friends. From there, invitations quickly multiplied, leading him to perform at nearly all of São Paulo’s most important dance floors.
DJ Magrão’s sets are a carefully curated blend of classic, rare, and exclusive tracks spanning reggae, dancehall, Brazilian, Latin, and African music — all played 100% on vinyl.
Currently a resident DJ at the highly regarded Fresh! party, Magrão has shared the stage with legendary Jamaican artists such as Ranking Joe, Welton Irie, Eek A Mouse, Yami Bolo, Lone Ranger, and King Jammy’s, as well as prominent Brazilian artists including Russo Passapusso, BNegão, and Black Alien, among others.
In 2003, Magrão was also one of the founders of Brazil’s first reggae Sound System, playing a key role in the development of the country’s sound system culture.
