Beyond the Stage: A Festival Photography Talk with Frankie Casillo
As part of the Ten Years of GALA tour, documentary photographer Frankie Casillo brings an open talk and visual session to Refuge Worldwide, exploring the craft of festival photography and how to capture the essence of a moment without falling into repetition. Rather than chasing the typical stage angles or endless crowd shots, the evening looks at how to translate energy, mood, and experience into imagery that feels personal and memorable. Through stories, visuals, and conversation, Frankie shares how to find your own perspective in spaces built on sound, movement, and human connection.
Frankie Casillo is a Berlin-based photographer whose work moves between music, sport, and youth culture, documenting raw energy and atmosphere with an intimate, cinematic eye. GALA Festival is one of Europe’s most forward-thinking independent festivals, celebrating ten years of community, sound, and creative freedom.
Before and after the talk there will be radio shows from Robert Owens, Richard Akingbehin and Gabi Monteiro, before heading to Globus for the Refuge x GALA clubnight.
