Under The Influence: Southeast Asia | Lz MC Can

The first time I got wounded by Southeast Asian folk music was with Angkanang Kunchai. To be specific Lam Sarawan was the track. Later on I started discovering more Thai music and later came Indonesian.

What moves me the most is, being exposed to sounds that contain familiar and unfamiliar together. That is something that always amazes me in music that are from different parts of the earth.

My impression of Asian music (other cultural practices) is the precision. Elements, instruments and sounds, all are particularly placed, used and recorded. In addition to that they stand very unique amongst what I am exposed to before.

Anyways, I am not an Asian music expert or specialist but I can introduce some bits I dug over the years, to get curious ears to tap into traditional, folk music from the region. I like to also shout out to Zubaidah Records in Bangkok and Dangdut.
