Smoothin Groovin: Romanian music in the 80s and 90s | Music Travel Guide

With Music Travel Guide

Not so long ago, Maikol from Music Travel Guide invited Smoothin Groovin's Larisa & Bogdan to one of their regular Talk Series, hosted at Unkompress Bar. Since we're both Romanian-born, we decided to speak about a very familiar theme: Romanian music in the '80s and the '90s. We enjoyed every minute of it, so we thought it might be a good idea to also turn it into a radio show, this time featuring more music and less talking, yet sharing essential bits of information.

The first decade was defined by some of the worst so-called communist dictatorships anywhere in the world, while the second was defined by what's locally called "wild capitalism". We're going to have a quick look at how these two opposite systems impacted the way music was consumed, influenced, made, released, and so on.
