Pérolas: Femmes Atlantiques | Discos da Jajá

With Discos da Jajá

Pérolas follows the currents of a world in constant transformation. Taking Édouard Glissant’s idea that “the whole world is becoming creolized” as a compass, the show explores how music emerges from crossings — migrations, diasporas, solidarities, and the everyday creativity of people reshaping their identities. Through vinyl recordings gathered from many regions and traditions, each episode invites listeners into a global journey where histories overlap, cultures speak to each other, and rhythm becomes a shared language of survival and imagination.

This special edition, Femmes Atlantiques, turns its ear toward feminine voices and composers across the Atlantic. From Cape Verde to Brazil, from the Caribbean to the northern coasts of South America, the selection traces constellations of artists such as Ana Firmino, Cesária Évora, Elizeth Cardoso, Leonor González Mina, and Toto Bissainthe — voices that carry memory, resistance, and tenderness across oceans.
