Explorers is back with a special edition. Last week we put out an open call on Instagram and connected with Chronic Preview, who delivers today’s one-hour journey. The mix unfolds as a sound story inspired by favorite anime and video-game worlds, built from Japanese artists we keep returning to, from Kenji Kawai to Susumu Hirasawa’s mind-bending, off-world electronics, and the surreal emotional gravity of Masaaki Yuasa’s Kaiba. Expect mostly hidden gems with a few classics, drifting through atmosphere and hypnotic left-field moments, touched by Susumu Yokota’s airy ambient/deep-house feel and a playful nod to Soichi Terada. The selection also dives into Japanese ’90s CD discoveries gathered during a recent Japan tour.
