With The League

Women’s basketball is having a moment and the momentum is impossible to ignore. As Berlin prepares to host the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup (starting September 4th), the initiative The League Community is bringing together players, creatives, basketball communities and changemakers for a special World Cup edition exploring the game beyond the court.

In cooperation with Refuge Worldwide and with the support of the Deutscher Basketballbund (DBB), the event will look at women’s basketball through three interconnected lenses: sport, culture and community. The discussion will explore what is driving the rapid growth of the women’s game and what other leagues, countries and sports can learn from its development.

With speakers Sinduya Jeevaratnam (Project lead & social media manager - here to hoop Berlin), Maye-Mona Dibba (co-founder Supasporty) and Alex Shaw (former national player, WNBA & FIBA certified agent), hostess and The League member of Team Hamburg Ann-Kristin Brandt (Brand & Marketing Manager - Veolia Towers Hamburg) will discuss why Women’s basketball is no longer waiting for permission to be seen, why it is building its own momentum, culture and community from the world’s biggest stages to local courts. Together, we will explore what makes this moment different, why visibility matters, what other sports can learn from the growth of women’s basketball, and how the game can continue to develop both on and off the court.
