aequa Radio: Legacies of Organizing | Sarj & Emmy

With Sarj

From genocides to climate catastrophes to the rise of violent fascism, endless horrors are unfurling with pixel-perfect clarity before our eyes. What is the antidote for the overwhelm of despair, rage, grief, and even hopelessness we feel as we witness and experience the terrors inflicted by the supremacist ruling classes on ruled and colonized peoples around the world?

In the words of abolitionist organizer Mariame Kaba, “Hope is a practice.” On this aequa Radio, comrades Sarj and Emmy discuss practicing hope through collective organizing, with a focus on resource-sharing for comrades to build knowledge, resilience and connection. We'll be asking ourselves and sharing reflections: What is community organizing? What does it mean to use collective strategy to build people power? What are some of the legacies of organizing that we can look to for both hope and instruction? What is asked of us as individuals if we want to be part of building mass movements for liberation?

Emmy is a Berlin-based community organizer with a focus on freedom of movement, migrant justice and other abolitionist aims.

Sarj is a community care organizer, facilitator and host of this monthly show on Refuge Worldwide.

Let's get organized! It's our only hope.
