27: an EP Review | malaïka

With malaïka

'27' is a two-part project born from malaïka’s deep reflections with herself and her close community, serving as a self-archive at 27 years old.

From these reflections, she crafted a 7-track EP titled ‘27’ and collaborated with two photographers on a self-portrait series, resulting in 27 images shaped by different perceptions of her.

Beyond these, ‘27’ invites collective reflections on self, archival traditions, and the role of art as a tool for documentation.

The music spans the worlds of neo soul, R&B, alt jazz and also Ghanaian highlife & afrobeat. It feels vulnerable, deeply personal and free.
