From Kwaito classics to Miami Bass closers

On 8 and 9 August 2026, MAGMA is back at RSO.Berlin for round two, running across multiple indoor and outdoor spaces. By day, expect house and techno colliding with hyperpop, alternative R&B, indie, and dance-punk, with Joy Orbison, Yaeji, Meg10, Mia Koden, and DJ Travella's raw Nyege Nyege energy. The night lineup just dropped too, featuring Jaxx TMS, Yungfya, Garage Girls, DJ Pipe, among others.
Ahead of the festival, Refuge Worldwide resident SENU, who opens the Valley Stage on the 8th, walks us through the tracks that shape her sound. A track you associate with the typical SENU sound for warm up club sets Nídia - Melodie Glaçe I love the track's dynamics and the mix of genres. Nidia is part of Príncipe Disco, a Lisbon-based record label that heavily influenced my style through artists like DJ Marfox, the pioneer of Batida.
A track you associate with your Black Atlantic radio show at Refuge Worldwide
Alaska - Accuse I dedicated one show to Kwaito and Bubblegum, and this is one of the first Kwaito songs that I heard on repeat. It just instantly gives you good vibes. A track from an artist on the MAGMA lineup DJ Travella - Believe Among many artists that I have been wanting to see live, DJ Travella is a special one. He made his name with his live performances advocating Tanzanian Singeli sounds.
A track you like to wake up with in the morning Ekowmania - Marimbula Groove This sound just guarantees a smooth start. The song is from Ekowmania, an amazing vocalist and drummer from Ghana. He is enriching the Berlin music scene a lot. I just saw him perform at the Ebo Taylor Tribute show.
A track to show off your sophisticated taste
Sons of Ethiopia by Admas - Anchi Bale Game Maybe more than my sophisticated taste, this one just reveals that I am Habesha. :-) A track you associate with the typical SENU sound for peak-time club sets Paty- Cavalo de Pau This track was on the first Baile Funk CD (Baile Funk Favela Booty Beats), which I bought when I started DJing. There is at least one Baile Funk track in my set.
A track you can play at a wedding or family function and know all generations will dance Sonya Spence - Let Love Flow On This was even my wedding song - so it will always have a special spot in my heart and memory.
A track from an upcoming Berliner artist
Sonic Intervention - Twasa One of my favorite live bands in Berlin right now. Every concert is different and a memorable musical experience. A track from the first ever record, CD or cassette you bought Destiny's Child - So Good I remember how my little sister and I fought about who could buy the album in the store when we were kids. Sharing didn’t seem like an option. I still know all the lyrics to every song. A track from an artist you have been to see live recently and particularly enjoyed BCUC - Amakhamandela I had the chance to see BCUC from Soweto in one of Berlin's best secret locations - the venue combined with the presence of the seven members of Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness was the perfect concert experience that gets rare. If you ever get a chance to see them live - don’t miss it! Their live shows are a spiritual journey.
A track you associate with the typical SENU sound for closing club sets FBC & VHOOR - Policia Covarde I haven't played a lot of rap tracks recently, but with this one I feel it's the perfect closing song with its raw, nostalgic Miami Bass vibe. The melody just instinctively sticks in your head.
We are happy to partner with MAGMA, with radio shows, ticket discounts and exclusive content planned for the next months. Get tickets and more info via RA here.
