Vaibhav Batra is one of India’s leading modular synth artists, known for experimental live sets that move fluidly between drones, glitches, and unconventional musical structures. A committed practitioner of free improvisation, he is a founding member of the Dilli Improvisers Orchestra, the country’s first large-scale improvisation ensemble, and an active presence in Delhi’s underground experimental circuit. His work spans pioneering collaborations including Khutoot-e-Niswan with Fouzia Dastango, Playground with Carnatic percussionist Charu Hariharam, Modulate Movements, and Baarish, a rock opera for synths. He also creates improvised audio-visual performances; Soul Seeking, an audio-visual live performance with Anandit Sachdeva, that pairs modular synths with turntableswas was showcased at the Sound/Image Festival in London. Alongside performing, he teaches modular synthesis through workshops and residential courses across India.
