Tropical Diaspora Records

The roots of Tropical Diaspora Records® trace back to the early 1990s, when DJ Garrincha left São Paulo for a newly reunified Berlin, fleeing Brazil's economic and political turmoil. Immersed in the city's underground scene of squatted bars and cultural experimentation, Garrincha found a home for his passion for the music of the Afro and Native diasporas. In those basement parties, he began spinning Brazilian and Latin American records, later earning the name DJ Garrincha — a tribute to the spirit of resistance carried through music.

In 2008, he launched the Tropical Diaspora event series, creating a space for cross-cultural connection and storytelling through sound. In 2015, this vision took permanent form with the founding of Tropical Diaspora Records®, an independent label committed to producing vinyl records that honor the musical legacies of migration, struggle, and survival. Joined by cultural scholar and DJ Dr. Sócrates, the label stands against cultural appropriation and gives voice to the stories often erased or exploited by mainstream industries. Tropical Diaspora Records® is music as resistance, as memory, and as liberation.
