Tim Novikov

Tim Novikov is a media artist currently based in Berlin. He was born in Uzbekistan in 1985 and moved to Nizhnevartovsk in 1995 to study civil engineering and sound art. In 2001, he relocated to Samara to study at Samara State University of Architecture, then worked in Moscow as a lead engineer and architect. Tim moved to Berlin in 2015 as an audio-visual artist, and initiated an artistic project through urban studies to analyze and create sound and visual language systems of cities. Tim also founded studio -0 (Minus Null) to work on recycling environmental R&D projects, utilizing plastic for art purposes such as sculpture, furniture, and music, including vinyl records. Concurrently, he developed skills in programming light fixtures, lasers, LEDs, and generative digital graphics. His focus then narrowed to building immersive systems that combine performance art, digital/analog mediums with hardware and software. In 2018, Tim began working as a visual director and system designer with the German contemporary orchestra 'Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra'. Tim also collaborated on the 'Neue Orchesterformen' project, which received a state grant for a series of audiovisual concerts, presented in Berghain. He has developed an audio-visual system that interconnects sound, lasers, lights, visuals, and kinetic sculptures.
