Siete Catorce

“Neither from here nor there” is often used to describe migrant identities in territorial terms. In the case of Siete Catorce, it makes more sense temporally. His music has been so far ahead of its time that it ultimately carved out a space of its own within both Latin American and global electronic music.

With more than 150 releases to his name, Marco Polo García has traversed and expanded much of the continent’s electronic spectrum: from digital cumbia and tribal to funk, swung techno, and other rhythm-driven forms that resist easy classification. More than genre, his work is grounded in meticulous sound design and a rhythmic sensibility that has made him one of the most respected drum programmers of his generation.

Born in Mexicali and shaped between the Bay Area and northern Mexico, his musical identity emerged through hip hop, dubstep, and the independent border scenes. After spending several years in Mexico City without a clear place within the scene, he created his own through the music itself, developing a distinctive DJ/live set and a singular vision of contemporary Mexican electronic music. In the process, he became an essential name within the city’s more forward-thinking circuit.

Now, after more than a decade of work, multiple albums, and the founding of his label SubReal, Siete Catorce continues to operate as a key figure in Latin club music: influential, consistent, and deliberately outside the media spotlight. From Los Angeles, his impact continues to expand, not as a trend, but as a reference point.
