Samrattama

SAMRATTAMA is a prominent interdisciplinary Kazakh artist, musician, and performer originally from Kostanay. In Kazakh, his moniker has a double meaning. It translates literally to "Samrat from the Tama tribe," but tama can also mean "don't be," rendering the artistic name as "Don't be Samrat". He explores post-Soviet identity, globalization, and cultural reinvention. Raised in the predominantly Russian-speaking northern region of Kazakhstan, he deeply connected with his Kazakh heritage after moving to Almaty, learning the language and weaving bilingual lyrics (Kazakh/Russian) into his art. He refuses to label himself strictly as a rapper or poet, preferring the term "interdisciplinary". His performances blend raw electronic indie music with theater, ritual elements, and performance art.
