Mr. Poetivist

Lemaire James, known as Poetivist in the theatre space, is a poet, activist and writer born on September 11, 1998, in Ghana.

He is currently the creative voice and artistic director of Very Afrika Studio—an independent online stage for unapologetic live arts. AKADi Magazine, UK called him the poet who redefined Ghana’s Year of Return initiative by exploring his own separation from his indigenous culture within Ghana.

Under the auspices of Kofi Anyidoho, Lemaire was involved in the dramatic poetry play at the Ghana National Theater (Folklore’s Place) that launched three books of Dr Mawuli Adjei—an English lecturer at the University of Ghana.

On stage, and among others in his distinguished career, he has championed events like Poetic Justice at the museum of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and The Silhouette and Earnest Silhouette at Patrice Lumumba Road, Accra. These performances were installed to address narratives said of us and to speak the story as it is.
