Maïa Beyrouti

Maïa Beyrouti is a Franco-Palestinian ceramic artist living and working in Berlin. Her artistic practice focuses on materials research and glazework, including text-based works that question the relationships between land, material, and identity. She gives talks and ceramic material classes that engage material narratives and how their inherent symbolic, cultural, historical, personal, and geological storylines work in constellation. Recently, she was part of a conversation with Kathryn Yusoff titled 'Landing/Bodies' at Kindl Berlin, and was a guest lecturer at Columbia University for students of Science of the Underground. She has exhibited work at the Design Doha Biennal’s headline exhibition as well as at the Sharjah Biennal as part of a collaborative piece on the theme “To Carry”. She is currently undertaking a collaborative research project on cobalt, an element categorised as a critical mineral that continues to polarise notions of the toxic and the sublime and exposes our relationship to distance.
