The Campaign for Victims of Racist Police Violence – known as KOP – has existed since 2002 and advocates for people affected by racist police controls and assaults. KOP offers counseling and legal support, assistance in front of court and in public, and solidarity-based spaces for those affected. A key aim of KOP is to highlight that racial profiling and police violence are not isolated incidents, but part of a structural problem. The initiative was initiated by Biplab Basu out of an urgent need to give a voice to those affected, and he fought relentlessly to make racist police practices visible and push for social change until his death in 2024.
