Garth Erasmus

Garth Erasmus is an acclaimed visual artist and musician from South Africa. Combining his main practices with an interest in his own cultural heritage, he started building his own instruments, inspired by the ancient instruments of the Khoisan (South Africa’s non-Bantu indigenous people). From 1999 to 2012 he was a member of the South African First Nation activist group Khoi Khonnexion. In 2024, his first album under his own name, "Threnody for the KhoiSan", was released, followed by the "All Broken" EP by Garth Erasmus Broken String Ensemble in January 2026.
