COLA REN

COLA REN is a Guangzhou-based music producer, DJ, and multidisciplinary artist whose work weaves together observations of humanity, introspection, and the quiet poetry of travel. Classically trained in piano and shaped by a background in photography, she approaches sound with a cinematic sensibility—treating rhythm, texture, and field recordings as moving images that unfold in time. Her music travels freely between downtempo, ambient, jazz and psychedelic influences, blending organic warmth with intricate rhythmic design. Her latest release, Mekong Ballad (2025), marks a new chapter in her artistic evolution. Guided by rivers and memory, the EP distills her journeys through Southeast Asia into a gentle yet deep-flowing body of work. Expanding the thematic universe of earlier projects—Hailu (2023) and Forest Drone (2024)—the record brings her voice, landscape-inspired textures, and narrative instinct into sharper focus. Her collaborative world has continued to expand through work with artists such as Al Wootton, Polygonia, Salamanda, K-Lone, Knopha, and Mong Tong. COLA REN’s music has been released across Asia, Europe, and the U.S. on labels including AMWAV, QEONE, Human Pitch, and Fandango. Her work has garnered attention from international DJs, radio hosts, and global tastemakers, and has been written about by respected music journalists including Shawn Reynaldo, Philip Sherburne, and Joe Delon. She has appeared on platforms such as Boiler Room, NTS, HÖR, Kiosk Radio, and Balamii, and has performed at festivals across Asia and Europe including FFKT, Gampeki, and the Nordic Pavilion at World Expo Osaka. Her genre-crossing, narrative-driven selections continue to convey a distinctive East Asian perspective within the global electronic music landscape.
