BŪJIN

BŪJIN is a sonic polyglot in the South African & global electronic underground. Her love for music stretches from funk to footwork, gqom to ghetto house, and bouyon to Black techno revivals, classical music and opera. Her ear is expansive, sensual, deep and unrivalled in technicality, playfulness, selection and storytelling. BŪJINs sets and shows often stretch across multiple formats, from digital to vinyl, to incorporating live instruments such as the violin. A true gem of the underground, she's steadily carved her own lane and built a loyal international and local following by staying true to her style, her sound and herself. Her undying love for the craft has captivated dance floors across South Africa, Berlin, New York, Accra & Mexico City. In South Africa, she runs the electronic music collective, 'Black Jelly', and works as a sonic researcher, sound designer, DJ, producer & movement director; work that has gained her global underground recognition, international collaboration, and a Master's degree with cum laude. She's enjoys yapping on sonic underground practices in Southern Africa, and her work has been to Encontro de Cinema Zózimo Bulbul festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Kunstverein in Hamburg, the Venice Biennale and she’s delivered a talk on ‘The Sonic As Landscape’ at the University of Chicago.

Her forever obsessions are strong Black tea, a good Black sneaker and Black rhythmic relationships to Time, Techno, Technology and Contamination. BŪJINs made guest features on BBC Radio, Globalize Yourself Stereo, Rinse FM, NTS Radio, Radio Raheem Milano and Worldwide FM.
