babxi

Her name is Barbara Woolsey but many friends call her by her artist name, babxi (pronounced 'Babsi').

Born and raised in western Canada (Saskatchewan), Barbara moved to Berlin in 2013. Prior to that, from 2011 to 2013 she lived in Thailand working as a TV host and producer. She also wrote a regular online column on Bangkok nightlife.

As a culture journalist, Barbara has contributed to Berlin's electronic music scene, covering topics from the 'Clubsterben' (club closures) to the pandemic's impact on Berlin nightlife. She has authored over 30 guidebooks for Lonely Planet, including on Germany, the Netherlands and Central Europe.

Barbara's background (Filipina, Irish and Scottish heritage) has deeply influenced her writing and work as an electronic music producer and performer under the moniker "babxi". Currently, she is the host of Diaspora FM, a regular format on Refuge Worldwide highlighting the vibrant, diverse contributions of Asian diaspora to Berlin's creative community.
