Alma Negrot

Raphael Jacques is Alma Negrot, a multimedia artist based in São Paulo. Alma Negrot's artistic universe is surrounded by the poetics of existence, where the artist explores the infinite possibilities of the body and its powers – carrying symbols that have new meanings most of the time and doing that with intricate handmade works. To do this, she uses different elements ranging from cosmetics to discarded items and high fashion designer pieces. Everything can be a starting point for her deep and continuous creative process. Raphael's work ranges from performance. DJing, makeup and creative direction of editorials, advertisement and music videos. It has already been featured in the most important fashion magazines in Brazil and even academic articles, which seek to decipher the emblematic and mysterious figure who remixes the punk and clubber scenes, inspired by personalities such as Bettie Page, Elke Maravilha, Grace Jones and Leigh Bowery. Over the last decade, Alma Negrot has established herself as a Performer, DJ and mythical character of Brazilian nightlife. For seven years she has been a resident artist at Mamba Negra, the biggest electronic music party dedicated to queer and underground crowds in Latin America. In 2020, she was part of the parallel programming of the international exhibition Björk Digital, presenting her work alongside James Merry, creative director of the Icelandic artist. Constantly working between music and fashion, the artist signed the Beauty and Makeup in music videos and album covers for Alice Caymmi, Filipe Catto, Johnny Hooker, Karol Conká, Ladytron and Letrux, and in fashion shows for the brands Another Place and João Pimenta at São Paulo Fashion Week. The artist also lectured creative makeup workshops for major brands in the cosmetic industry such as Kryolan, MAC and NYX. As a DJ, Alma Negrot is dedicated to reviving genres originating from house music, such as garage, acid, hard house, trance club, funk, and disco, with special attention to productions from the 1970s to the 1990s. Their work involves a harmonious and experimental exploration of vocals, instruments, and technological elements. Alma's eclectic curation consistently aims to immerse audiences in the queer and clubber universe, featuring timeless tracks, vocal grooves of divas, and hypnotic, energetic sounds. Their sets are a hit on the dance floors of parties and nightclubs like Sangra Muta, Club Jerome, Kevin, and Zig Studio.
