Salt Traces collective explores interrelations between water bodies, food and communities in the backdrop of climate change. Their starting point is the Caspian Sea and the communities living around the Absheron peninsula and in the South of Azerbaijan. With this project, they aim to create a space for discussion and reflection on the perception of climate change and its impact on daily life through an exploration of food, recipes, and daily eating habits linked with the plummeting water levels at the Caspian.
During one of the workshops they organized at the Porto Design Biennale 2023 edition, they invited participants to create unique maps representing the water bodies they hold dear or share a profound connection with. The resulting collage maps, exhibited at the OONA Bar/Refuge Worldwide during the Storytelling time event, are a tapestry of memories, emotions, and personal nuances tied to these special places.
