The 4th episode of Flip The Script discusses what it means to be queer in the Caribbean and beyond. Following on from the Desire Lines conference at the HKW in Berlin, Simone Harris from Jamaica and Andil Gosine from Trinidad explore and untangle the received narratives around LGBTQIA+ issues from a decolonial and intersectional perspective while also unravelling the conventional interpretations of gender, sexuality, civility and animality.
Simone is a 7th generation Maroon, queer artist, activist and consultant. She is the owner of 360ARTISTS, a Kingston based arts management agency and the founder of Walking Tall Jamaica and Choreography is Copyrightable. Her latest project Lady Blake Ophelia Stratum explores ancestry, colonialism and queer ritual. Andil Gosine is Professor of Environmental Arts and Justice at York University, a visual artist and curator. His book, Nature's Wild, engages with questions of humanism, queer theory, and animality to examine and revise understandings of queer desire in the Caribbean.
