Cate Hops

Cate Hops is the DJ alias of the visual anthropologist and radio host Eugenia Seriakov. With a scientific background in art theory and philosophy, her ideas circulate around the concept of space as a social practice. Musically, she embeds herself within Berlin’s bass scene fusing ambient, early roots reggae with futuristic sound patterns from all fields. When listening to one of her sets, one can expect a versatile ride through time and space driven by ever-changing percussion rhythms and heavy bass sequences.

Recently she also started working on live noise improvisation. With the ongoing project “Sound System Culture: On the Radical Roots of Rave”, she launches events where the participating audience becomes an active creator. In her radio show, she invites guests of her network to discuss with and play their favourite sound system tunes.
