Pjenné

Through her imaginative club sets and weekly radio show on Melbourne’s PBS FM, Pjenné (Penny O’Brien) has established herself as a critical fixture in Melbourne's electronic music community. The after-hours see her navigating through all realms of dance music - energetic sets that are heavily driven by the psychedelic and progressive sounds of the 90s and beyond. Equally adept at playing small, sweaty basements as she is on festival stages, Pjenné has made multiple appearances at the highly acclaimed Inner Varnika, Strawberry Fields, Golden Plains, and Boiler Room. Away from the dancefloor, Pjenné finds a sanctuary inside the radio booth. Her show Passing Notes further explores her fascination with the diversity of electronic music, as well as the community it fosters. The airwaves afford her the opportunity to unearth and showcase sounds a little more unorthodox. From early evening soundscapes, downtempo, and emotional synth-pop, to experimental club music, Passing Notes provides a crucial connection from club to community. Storytelling by way of both music and words is core to Pjenné’s practice, enabling her to platform and play host to inspiring artists from both near and far. Pjenné’s passion for what she does is pervasive. Be it in the studio or on the dancefloor, the same beliefs shine through: the importance of community, of supporting each other, and the necessity of a damn good dance.
